Happy New Year everyone.
Hope this one is better.

Resolved

I don't usually make resolutions, but I feel the need to make a couple this year.

1. I need to either lose weight, or get myself into the program to get weight-loss surgery. One or the other, by the end of the year.
2. I need a job. If I don't find a job, then I suspect that #1 might become more urgent, because I suspect it would help. But really I need a job
soon. Every time I use a credit card, I'm spending my retirement money. Rob's paycheck is enough to pay the rent and the utilities and maybe even the groceries, but everything over that is coming out of my inheritance.

------------------------

Those are the important things: my health, my work. But there are a couple more I can think of:

3. I need to work on my jewelry techniques, and get some jewelry made, and keep trying to sell on Etsy. I have already spent tons of money on
this, so I need to keep at it.
4. I need to work on decluttering the house. We still have so much crap, and we need to get rid of some of it. I need to keep organizing, and scanning pictures, and getting rid of the stuff I find that I can get rid ot.

Father's day

(Middle of the night, last night) I need to go to bed, because I have to get up relatively early, but I can't quite make myself go to bed. We are having lunch with my dad tomorrow - I haven't seen him in nearly a year, I think. I talk to him on the phone occasionally but that's about it. So I'm simultaneously sort of looking forward to and dreading this lunch, all at once.

(Later) I got to bed and got a reasonable amount of sleep but I feel sort of crappy, still. But then I have felt sort of crappy for days on end. I think I have sort of a low-level sinus infection going, or something like that. I've had earaches and sore throats sort of sporadically - they come and they go. I've been through most of a monster Sam's-Club size bag of cough drops already. But I think it's gradually getting better.

It's almost noon and I'm waiting for Rob to get back from the gym so we can leave. It's raining outside, again - it's been raining or raining with sleet and snow mixed in (that was in Bryan on Christmas Eve) or something of the sort off and on for days. (The kids were excited about the snow even if it WAS mixed with rain - it was funny.)

(Even later)
I did feel better this afternoon, and to balance out the karma, or something, my voice disappeared. Well, not completely, but everything came out as a croak all day. Still, it's better than feeling bad.

The afternoon didn't go too badly. We had Chinese food and watched a movie, which is much preferable to attempting to have a conversation with my dad. (The problem there being that my dad doesn't really have conversations, at least not for more than a couple of minutes at a time. After that, he gets excited about some subject or other and he stops hearing you, and just orates. It never fails.) The movie was 8 Below, which is about sled dogs; it's a Disney movie, but not one of those ones where the dogs talk. I had actually heard halfway decent things about it, so I was happy to watch it. (Spoilery thoughts about the movie below.) I don't know if Rob really wanted to stay and see a movie, but considering, as I said, that we hadn't seen my dad and his wife in a year, I felt obliged to stay a while. So we watched the movie and played with their dog - who, probably not coincidentally, is a husky - and whiled away the afternoon. It was well after dark before we left.

I didn't have a very good present for my stepmother, and I felt bad because she made us a really nice afghan in very pretty colors that I really like. (And it's not too heavy, which is the problem I have with many afghans.) I'm gonna have to attempt to make up for that at some point, although we have the excuse of my unemployment for bad gifts, this year. Come to think of it, I don't even know when her birthday is, and they've been married for years now. Which probably tells you a lot about my relationship with my dad, right there. I had a couple of books from Half-Price for my dad, which he seemed to like. I always buy my dad the same sort of books - stuff from the history section, about WWII or the Alamo, mostly, or sometimes about the space program. If he's tired of them he's very good at hiding it!

Breath Taking Portraits

I find myself collecting, hoarding, saving amazing etsy sellers everyday and thought this blog would be a fun way to show you a variety of amazing things that deserve a little recognition. Today I want to show you Christie Dekoning's beautiful Watercolor artwork. She has all sorts of original custom art in the form of neat paintings, buttons, necklaces and prints. She features all things pop culture (a passion of mine) kitties, pin ups, stars, characters, food and more. Definitly take a moment to stop by her shop and maybe even heart her shop.

If you love Edward and Bella from Twilight as much as I do you'll enjoy some of her sweet twilight portraits.

Or if you feel that sparkling vampires is too much perhaps check out the detail of her custom portraits.

Her kittens look just perfect enough to cuddle up with!

I have never come across a shop with such amazing portraits as this one yet. The vivid colours lure you in. Thanks for reading <3 Now hurry over to Christies shop and check out her work! p.s All artwork borrowed with permission from Christie.

Seller Resources: Number 1 Biggest Etsy Mistake

Hello All! Recently I started to delve into the articles of etsy to find out what I could be doing to get my shop seen more often. With a little research I began to learn of all the mistakes I was making and how I could nitpick out all the little things to improve my shop. Slowly I've been seeing an increase of sales and views and would like to share some tips with you!

I wanted to mention a critical aspect of etsy that I see people missing in their ship listings.

The number one mistake people are making on etsy listings is that they are not using all 14 of their descriptive tags during the listing process.

Sure it can be difficult to think up descriptive words yourself but there are some great resources to get you past that writers block.

You can go to this website which has a nifty tool that will suggest tags to you and show you the popularity of certain tags from similar items on etsy.
Craft Weasel's Tag Tool

Another great tool is the Google Adwords tool.
Google Adwords Keyword Tool
It is similar to the other tool. It allows you to put in a phrase and it suggests tagging words for you.

These tools allow you to find words that suit the item you are trying to sell on etsy. Ultimately if you do not choose the right words that people will search to find your specific item your wonderful handicrafts will be lost amongst the thousands of listings that etsy sees daily.

Another great resource for descriptive help are your friends and family. Ask them to describe your item in a few words to get some ideas. Use colours, even your shop name to fill in extra descriptive words to draw people to your shop or to find your shop easily.

Next Seller Resources segment I will be writing about the Google Web Analytics tool linked in the etsy side bar!

Thanks all, have a great weekend.

If any of you are using blogspot please add me. I'm posting there about random things. Kind of using it as a way to write about shops I like, things like that. Will duplicate them over here though for a while. http://iheartexousia.blogspot.com

Christmas presents!

Wall-E and Eve!
Wall-E has a magnet in his left hand and Eve has a magnet in her right hand. Eve has a recording of them saying each others names when you squeeze her.

Christmas Craft WIN!

This year I tried, once again, to make some gifts for my family. These crafty christmases haven''t always gone over well in the past. My family somehow isn't one who understands the heart that a crafter puts into each stitch. To them I am just plain "weird". Do other people who LOVE making things for other people have this problem too? Or is it just my crazy family?

Anyway, this year I am broke broke broke and I couldn't afford to go home so I challenged myself to craft with only things I already owned (I didn't even buy wrapping paper!) and sent things home in the mail.

After Christmas I was surprised to get a phone call from my mother gushing about the gift I made for her! Actual genuine appreciation! She is HAPPY with what I made her and wants to show her friends and is encouraging me to write the pattern for it out so it doesn't get forgotten!
WEEE!

Would you like to see the gift that finally thrilled her?

Warning: Pics might be a bit on the large side. Hopefully, not TOO large.

Too bad she says it is too nice to actually USE. Sigh.

As I was saying in my ttmt post, here is the you tube video I used to help me learn to knit

The main site http://cyberseams.com/  is super cool and a great help to anyone who is starting out.   I have alot of boxes to go though to fine my cd player, we are going to be buying a wireless music squeeze box thing but not till next month or even later as saving money is top on our list.

I'll post the TTMT when it's done doing it's thing.

Avatar Craft Ideas...

So having seen Avatar, and then looking in my craft box and seeing the AMAZING amount of blue yarn I have, I want to do an Avatar themed project. I have yarn that looks like all the florescent beauties you see in the movie, and can't wait to use it.

I'm not a super experienced crocheter, but I can hold my own. Super, super beginner when it comes to knitting. I can sew pretty well, too.

Any ideas appreciated :)

Little needlefelted cat!

I made a cat for a friend, as a memory of a recently departed pet.

I used alpaca fibre, and this took a few weeks as it was a bit more work that merino (the blue and pink bits used were merino, however).
